I am gob-smacked at Gwyn Morgan鈥檚 strategy to tackle the climate emergency: Do nothing at all 鈥� just pay to clean up the mess. This from a man who worked in the oil industry and spent years trying to prevent action to slow the crisis.
He quotes a man in hip-waders who said: 鈥淲ell, there鈥檚 all this talk about climate change, but I don鈥檛 see what Canada can do about that when China and other countries keep burning more. If that鈥檚 going to cause more floods, we鈥檇 better figure out how we can be ready for them.鈥�
This is like being in Britain in 1940 and saying: 鈥淲ell, there鈥檚 all this talk about Hitler invading, but I don鈥檛 see what Britain can do about that when Hitler has already conquered most of Europe. If he鈥檚 going to invade us, we鈥檇 better figure out how we can live with that.鈥�
Could Morgan honestly stand up in front of the striking schoolchildren who are so alarmed about what the climate emergency is going to do to their future and tell them that the best solution is to do nothing?
