Re: “Saanich voters, beware of Victoria,” letter, May 12.
The letter reinforces the fundamental question that Saanich politicians must answer to their voters: Why would we want to amalgamate with the core of what Jack Knox calls “Dysfunction by the Sea”? The only result would be an increase in our mil rate to help pay for the expanding catalogue of Victoria’s over-budget spending over the past decades (bridge, bike lanes — need we say more?), not a reduction for Victoria residents to our level.
If we pursue amalgamation, it must be with Langford, which shares our views and would provide an efficient and effective municipality, although it would require View Royal to join us, to provide for a single, contiguous area.
