Re: “Ban horse-drawn carriages by 2023, Coun. Ben Isitt says,” May 14.
The headline outlines the views of Victoria Coun. Ben Isitt, who promotes the removal of horse-drawn carriages from the downtown area.
I seem to recall that this issue was well investigated last year (by the SPCA, among others) and found to be quite acceptable and safe, not to mention that the horses were well cared for.
While driving around town, one notices the number of “rough” riding streets and the preponderance of potholes that are badly in need of repair. Perhaps Isitt and his council supporters should concentrate on improving our city streets instead of worrying about the carriages, which incidentally, add a certain amount of charm to our city.
