Re: “Chinese ambassador to Canada: Butt out; At same time, Lu hopeful ‘serious difficulties' between the two countries can be resolved,” June 5.
Chinese Ambassador Lu Shaye contends 91ԭ criticism of Chinese human rights undermines the “neutral trust” between our nations. This begs the question: What neutral trust?
There is none and cannot be any as long as China continues to imprison two totally innocent 91ԭs.
This hostile act, together with China’s attempt at using carrot-and-stick trade policies for political purposes, reveals a lack of understanding of Canada’s proud history in supporting the cause of humanity.
This includes Dr. Norman Bethune’s service during Mao’s Long March and the 91ԭ contribution to defeating the aggressors in two world wars.
We seek to reveal, not hide our black marks, as China has tried to efface the history of Tiananmen Square Massacre.
Ambassador Shaye would best serve his nation by explaining to Beijing that Canada will never be “neutral” in the matter of human rights.
