Carolyn Smyly died on May 28, 2019. We should not forget her incredible contribution to the preservation of Victoria鈥檚 building heritage.
In 1973, she founded the Hallmark Society, now the Hallmark Heritage Society.
She was impassioned, articulate, reasoned and fearless. There was no developer or politician she wouldn鈥檛 approach in her campaigns.
She had a vision, not just for Victoria but for all of B.C. If not for her inspiration and dedication there would be no provincial Heritage Conservation Act, no heritage advisory committees, no heritage registers, no Old Town plan for Victoria.
The battle goes on, but please remember Carolyn and her legacy.
