Re: “Wilson-Raybould must explain the logic behind her decision,” comment, March 3.
I congratulate and thank the author for articulating his views so well. The public beatification of an ex-cabinet minister who has accomplished little more than getting into a fight with her boss (and paying the price) has been almost too much to bear.
My hat is off to her for taking on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his team and beating them at their own game, but I refuse to put her on a pedestal until she explains her motivation.
She has had almost four years to make her mark as a champion for justice in her struggle to ensure 91ԭ corporations are held legally responsible for their actions. In that time, we have seen her government refuse to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We have also witnessed the continuous stalling in appointing an ombudsperson to oversee corporate accountability.
And let’s not forget that, as a member of cabinet, she helped sneak in the amendment to the Criminal Code that allows for corporate plea agreements.
It seems strange that Jody Wilson-Raybould now chooses to draw a line in the sand over the fate of a Quebec construction company, when there have been so many other important issues to fight for.
