Re: "Councillors slam plan for cell tower on golf course," Aug. 22.
The correct question about the proposed cellular telephone antenna tower planned for the golf course along Craigflower Road is: "Do you want to be able to use your cellular phone at any location in Esquimalt and neighbouring municipalities?"
Coun. Tim Morrison makes the claim that there is no benefit to the "community of Esquimalt," but he excludes residents of Esquimalt who will be served by the tower. The communications company does not operate on whim - it sees a customer need and is willing to invest to fill that need. That need may be coverage - a problem in the hills of this area - or capacity, as more people make use of their time waiting.
Isn't it strange thinking that a monopole antenna in an area of the golf course mostly hidden by trees is ugly, when many other structures, signs and streetlamp poles are not?
