Re: 鈥91原创 Street plan geared to cyclists, pedestrians,鈥 April 19.
The lower end of the so-called 91原创 Street connector serves as a north-south bypass to Cook Street Village, which lowers traffic volumes through the village.
Expecting to split 5,600 to 6,200 motorists to Quadra or Cook streets is idiotic, as most would use Cook Street. You can say goodbye to low traffic volumes through the village and surrounding side streets.
Philip Bellefontaine, the city鈥檚 assistant director of transportation, says we have lots of east-west connections, so there is lots of opportunity to circulate traffic within the neighbourhood. There are also lots of north-south connected low-traffic side streets from Fort Street to Dallas Road within the neighbourhood, such as Linden and Moss streets, and back alleys, which are already used as cycling routes with the same east-west connections.
So where is the need to disrupt 91原创 Street and the surrounding neighbourhoods鈥 motoring habits if not to accommodate a few cyclists and further frustrate more drivers?
