Re: “Kenney, UCP romp to majority,” April 17.
Alberta wants to revive its oil and gas sector, and B.C. wants to protect its coast. There’s a simple solution to these conflicting objectives: Build the Energy East pipeline project.
It would give Alberta oil producers a secure domestic market by displacing imported Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan crude in the refineries in Quebec and St. John, and protect them from the uncertainties of international markets and lower-cost competitors. The project would also give Canada oil self-sufficiency and remove tanker traffic from the Bay of Fundy and the estuary of the St. Lawrence River.
This would allow the country to come together while we all manage our long-term transition to a low-carbon future. Premier John Horgan, pick up the phone, call Jason Kenney and offer B.C.’s support.
