Let’s get this straight. Saanich proposes enacting a bylaw to tax owners of pet cats for the “biodiversity-threatening” actions of feral cats without owners, while at the same time we read that this is one of the worst areas for rats, which are notorious for the spread of infectious disease.

Here’s food for thought: In the years when I owned two loving cats, they didn’t bring home many birds, but they sure caught hundreds of mice and big rats, sometimes two or three daily. It seems to me that we should be supportive and thank responsible owners of spayed outdoor cats for the pest control they provide.
