Re: “Province urged to fund Victoria Sexual Assault Centre,” April 7.

The article didn’t state that at the Feb. 4 meeting of Langford council, a grant of $2,500 was approved for the Sexual Assault Centre. Council also resolved to write to the provincial government that council believes the Sexual Assault Centre should be fully funded on a permanent basis by the provincial government, as this centre provides an essential service that saves money for both the health-care and justice systems.

At a meeting later that week, the Langford-based West Shore Developers’ Association resolved to match the city’s grant to the centre and provided the centre with an additional $2,500.

My understanding is that the Town of View Royal also provided a grant to the centre, although I am unaware of the amount.
