A 26-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in serious condition after she was attacked by two pit bulls in Sundre, Alta., early Saturday.
RCMP investigating the attack said it's not the first time the animals have lashed out. The woman was staying at a friend's house when police got the 911 call shortly before 2 a.m. "It appears both dogs were attacking; both were very aggressive," said Sundre RCMP Cpl. Ryan Hodge.
The woman was taken out of the home with bite marks to her arms and face. She was rushed to hospital in Calgary. Hodge said it's believed she will survive the ordeal.
Police had a difficult time corralling the dogs after the woman was taken from the home. "The one dog was very aggressive with police and had to be put down on site."
A dangerous dog hearing will be held to determine the fate of the remaining dog.
Hodge said police don't know why the homeowner's pets attacked the woman. He estimated the dogs weighed 80 to 90 lbs.
"There is a history of violence there and that is part of our investigation."
