West Shore RCMP responded to a report of two males carrying weapons on Goldstream Avenue in Langford Thursday night.
But after locating the 17-year-old and 18-year-old, police found that the weapons - described by the complainant as a long sword and a machine gun - were actually a practice blunt sword and a paint ball gun.
"We assume weapons are real until proven otherwise," said Cpl. Scott Braes. "We err on the side of safety first."
Police spoke to the teens but took no further action.
