A 23-year-old Sidney man has died from an apparent drug overdose at an electronic-music festival in the Kootenay community of Salmo.

Mitchell Joseph Fleischacker was at the Shambhala Music Festival when, at 5: 20 a.m. Sunday, he collapsed in the food court.

Emergency crews found him unconscious and nonresponsive but breathing, said Britz Robins, spokeswoman for the festival.

Fleischacker was taken to the on-site medical centre, where he was seen by a doctor, registered nurse, paramedics and first-aid attendants, Robins said.

Fleischacker was then taken by ambulance to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail.

"All attempts to stabilize the patient failed and, unfortunately, he suffered cardiac arrest en route to the hospital and was unable to be revived," Robins said.

He was not carrying any ID, but police determined his identity by making inquiries, said StaffSgt. Dan Seibel of Kootenay Boundary Regional RCMP.
