Saanich police shut down a major marijuana grow operation in Cordova Bay Thursday night - seizing 900 plants and several kilograms of freshly cut and dried marijuana.

The plants were found in two buildings on one property in the 5300 block of Alderley Road, said Saanich Police Sgt. Scott Treble. Alderley Road is near Cordova Bay Ridge and runs parallel to the Patricia Bay Highway.

Power was diverted and stolen to run the grow operation, police said.

The drug bust was the result of a joint investigation between the Saanich police street crime unit and B.C. Hydro.

A 51-year-old Duncan man and 50-year-old Victoria woman were arrested by police and later released to appear in court on Oct. 1, police said.

Marijuana production and theft of electricity charges will be recommended against both individuals, police said.
