A pedestrian died on Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 19 near Nanoose Bay.
Sgt. Shane Worth of Oceanside RCMP said police and other first responders were on scene of the fatal collision, which took place in the southbound highway lanes at Northwest Bay Road.
Worth confirmed that a pedestrian had died.
B.C. Emergency Health Services said it received a call at 7:04 a.m. about a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian.
An ambulance with primary care paramedics and an ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene.
“No patients were transported to hospital,” said paramedic public information officer Brian Twaites.
Traffic was delayed while the scene was being processed by police, reopening about 10:45 a.m.
Worth said the investigation is being led by B.C. Highway Patrol, which is expected to provide further details later on Friday.
