A Saskatchewan man on a motorcycle trip through British Columbia was killed in a head-on collision while his son watched helplessly.
Castlegar police were called to a report of a crash Tuesday on Highway 3A near the Shoreacres Bridge in southeast B.C., between Castlegar and Nelson.
Police said the driver of a Ford Explorer attempted to overtake a logging truck, lost control and crossed the centreline into the path of two motorcycles.
One of the men braked and then put his motorbike on its side. The driver fell off, tumbled and suffered serious injuries.
Sixty-six-year-old Clifford Wright of Swift Current, Sask., was rushed to hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.
The second motorcycle rider, Wright's adult son, was able to safely come to a stop while witnessing the accident.
Police say neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash.
