A prohibited driver on an uninsured motorcycle is believed to have been impaired when he crashed in Langford on Thursday.
West Shore RCMP said a 47-year-man was riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he took a wide turn and hit a curb before the bike fell on its side at Millstream Avenue and Hoylake Road, according to a witness.
The motorcycle hadn’t been insured since last October, police said.
Officers responded about 6:20 p.m. and became suspicious that the man was impaired by alcohol, but he refused a demand for a breath sample, police said.
He was arrested for prohibited driving and failure to provide a breath sample, and was also charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for having no insurance — which comes with a $698 fine.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment, while the motorcycle was impounded for seven days and will undergo an inspection.
