What: Ted Harrison Studio
closing party
When: Today, 3:30 p.m.
to 5:30 p.m.
Where: 2004 Oak Bay Ave.
Why: Ted Harrison, best known for his vibrant paintings of Yukon scenes, will be closing his Oak Bay gallery and studio at the end of the month -- but not before taking some time to say hello to some of his supporters and fans. The senior artist has welcomed visitors to watch him paint in the space for six years. This might be your last chance to check out one of Canada's brightest artists in his work environment.

What: Lag Ma'al
a Dapar -- Land, Sea and Sky
When: Today through Sept. 20
Where: Alcheringa Gallery
Why: The sea is sacred for those who call the Torres Strait between Guinea and Australia home. Get in touch with your spiritual side through this dual show of intricate etchings and bold linoprints by veteran artist Dennis Nona and cultural revivalist Alick Tipoti. Though lesser-known in Canada, both are recipients of Australia's prestigious Telstra Award. Kudos to Alcheringa for keeping up with Nona, since giving him his first major exhibition outside the Land Down Under in 2001, before his tide turned.
