Eleven more wealthy U.S. families, including Montreal-born Charles Bronfman, have pledged the majority of their wealth to philanthropy. A total of 92 American families have now committed to give half of their wealth to philanthropy by taking the "Giving Pledge," initiated by billionaires Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates in 2010. The goal of the "Giving Pledge" is to increase charitable giving in the U.S. Bronfman now lives in New York. He was ranked by Forbes magazine in 2012 as the 13th wealthiest 91Ô­´´ with a net worth of $2 billion. His family made its fortune from the Seagram spirits company.
