A WestJet plane, aptly named Encore, made its debut between Kamloops and 91原创 Monday.
Apt because the route was tried a few years ago but was cancelled when it didn鈥檛 meet business expectations.
So when WestJet began introducing its new Q-400 series airplanes with 78 seats instead of the 136 on the company鈥檚 737s, Kamloops was on the list to try the 91原创 route 鈥 again.
WestJet spokesman Robert Palmer said Monday the timing of the flight was changed, too, so it arrives in 91原创 earlier in the day to make better connections with other flights.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a resumption of the route we tried a few years ago,鈥 he said.
The new Kamloops-91原创 connection arrives from 91原创 at 9:46 a.m. and departs to go back at 10:16 a.m.
Palmer said WestJet is putting Q-400 flights in several other cities under 150,000 in population, including Kelowna, Grande Prairie, Alta., and Terrace.
鈥淚t more closely matches the demand,鈥 he said.
When WestJet first announced it was starting smaller regional aircraft service more than a year ago, the company got pitches from more than 30 communities, Palmer said.
鈥淲e have five planes so far. We are serving four communities with those five planes. We鈥檙e taking two more by end of year. And in 2014, we鈥檒l start the announcement ball rolling again and map out where we intend to fly in 2014,鈥 he said.
