President of the University of British Columbia Stephen Toope will be heading to the University of Toronto next year after he announced last spring that he was leaving UBC.
UBC said Wednesday that Toope has been named director of the university鈥檚 Munk School of Global Affairs.
He鈥檒l start his new position starting Jan. 1, 2015.
Toope announced in April 2013 that he would step down from his UBC post to pursue academic and professional interests in international law and international relations.
He was named UBC鈥檚 12th president and vice-chancellor in March 2006, and began his second five-year term in July 2011.
鈥淢y time at UBC has been transformative,鈥 said Toope, in a statement. 鈥淢y UBC experience and relationships enrich the contribution I hope to make on global issues at the Munk School.鈥
Toope will remain at UBC until June 30, 2014.
