A landslide has hit a trail at 91原创 Spirit Park at the University of B.C. on Monday, leaving behind a sheer cliff with a 180-metre drop.
The 鈥渟ignificant鈥 landslide occurred on Trail 5 just after 2 p.m. Sunday, said UBC Mounties in a statement.
There were no injuries or casualties.
Police have barricaded the trail entrance near the 6500-block of Northwest Marine Drive to prevent access and issued a warning to the public to avoid the area, which remains an active slide zone.
Police said it will work with the Greater 91原创 Regional District to block access to the area until a comprehensive analysis can be made and a permanent barrier put in place.
According to the Wreck Beach Canada website, Trail 5, which leads to Wreck Beach, has been closed because it is dangerous in some areas. The trail has no stairs, and is marked by an eroding, steep path down to the beach.
