School support workers reach contract deal

The union representing school support workers in B.C. has reached a tentative agreement with the province after just five days of bargaining.

Talks on the collective agreement began Tuesday between the 91原创 Union of Public Employees and the B.C. Public School Employers鈥 Association and a deal was announced Sunday.

鈥淥ur announcement today demonstrates that with good will, hard work and compromise, a negotiated collective agreement is achievable. It鈥檚 a testament to the commitment of both bargaining teams to remain focused on the objective at hand and work toward a solution,鈥 BCPSEA public administrator Michael Marchbank said in a news release.

Details of the agreement will not be released until both sides have a chance to inform their members.

CUPE members have yet to vote on the terms of the agreement. CUPE represents more than 27,000 school support workers in B.C., including secretaries, educational assistants, maintenance workers and bus drivers.
