A University of Saskatchewan nursing professor is suing a Cariboo spa and guest ranch for injuries she claims were inflicted through advice of a fitness instructor.

Angela Baron filed suit in B.C. Supreme Court against Hills Health & Guest Ranch Ltd. seeking damages.

According to the statement of claim, in October two years ago, Baron was enrolled at a weight-loss program at the upscale facility at 108 Mile Ranch.

It claims an instructor 鈥渘egligently instructed the plaintiff to use the defendant鈥檚 exercise equipment in a way that injured the plaintiff.鈥

The lawsuit said Hills Health & Guest Ranch breached its duty of care.

Baron alleged injuries include damage to her right eye, pain, vision impairment, distortion of colour, a traumatic cataract and ongoing risk of retinal detachment.

She is claiming loss of income and health impacts including anxiety and depression.

The ranch has not yet filed a statement of defence.

None of the allegations have been heard or proven in court.
