The troubled Boonstock Festival in Penticton ended Sunday with one death and dozens of hospitalizations.

Interior Health confirmed 80 people were transported from festival grounds to Penticton Regional Hospital from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday.

The majority of the cases were drug- and alcohol-related, said spokeswoman Grace Kucey.

Seventeen patients were taken to hospital Friday, 26 Saturday, and 37 on Sunday, she said.

Early Saturday, a 24-year-old woman from Leduc, Alta., died in hospital after a suspected drug overdose, prompting RCMP to issue a warning to festival goers about the dangers of dehydration and 鈥渋ngesting unknown substances.鈥

Police said two other people were in critical condition from apparent drug overdoses.

About 8,000 tickets were sold for the festival, which featured on-site camping and headliners such as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Mother Mother.

Boonstock was denied a liquor licence by B.C. authorities due to 鈥渦naddressed safety concerns.鈥

This is the first time the music and arts festival was held in Penticton. The festival had a nine-year run in Alberta before relocating to B.C.
