聽VICTORIA 鈥� The B.C. Criminal Justice Branch says there will be no charges in the Lakeland Mills explosion that claimed two lives and injured 22 others in Prince George.
The branch says that based on the evidence available, there is no substantial likelihood of conviction for any of the regulatory offences recommended by WorkSafeBC.
The branch says the owners of Lakeland Mills would likely succeed on a defence of due diligence, saying it made a reasonable effort to prevent the incident in April 2012.
In February, WorkSafeBC recommended regulatory charges under the Workers Compensation Act.
The explosion killed 43-year-old Alan Little and 46-year-old Glenn Roche and occurred three months after a similar blast in nearby Burns Lake, where two workers died and 19 others were injured.
Charges were also recommended in the Burns Lake explosion, but they also did not proceed, partly due to a flawed investigation by WorkSafeBC.
