Driver in custody after police car rammed near Chetwynd

Chetwynd RCMP have a man in custody after he fled from police and rammed a police car. Officers saw a grey vehicle speeding on Highway 29 north of Chetwynd on Saturday at 6:16 p.m.

A Chetwynd RCMP vehicle was rammed head-on during an impaired driving investigation.

Chetwynd RCMP have a man in custody after he fled from police and rammed a police car.

Officers saw a grey vehicle speeding on Highway 29 north of Chetwynd on Saturday at 6:16 p.m.

Officers saw the driver throw a beer can out his window and they stopped the vehicle. The driver was detained for an impaired driving investigation when he fled from police on foot then jumped back into his vehicle.

A Chetwynd RCMP officer attempted to stop the driver but was subsequently dragged alongside the vehicle for some distance as the suspect held on to the officer's arm. The officer was able to break free and only sustained minor injuries.

Chetwynd RCMP pursued the vehicle and during the pursuit the suspect rammed a police vehicle head-on before he was captured and arrested.

The suspect, who is well known to police, is being held in custody by the Chetwynd RCMP on several criminal code offences.
