Two people were injured in a brazen drive-by shooting at an East 91原创 gas station Sunday evening.
One woman remains in hospital after violence broke out at the Chevron gas station on East Hastings Street between Vernon and Clark Drive just after 7 p.m.
Witnesses report seeing a man trying to escape a grey or white SUV, where an unknown gun man was firing from the back seat.
鈥淚 heard about three shots and saw a guy from the gas station running across the street,鈥� said Alvin Hackett, who was enjoying a barbecue with friends outside a shop beside the gas station when shots rang out.
He saw the man run across Hastings chased by an SUV, while a man 鈥渟itting on the sill鈥� of the back window fired more shots using what Hackett said appeared to be a high-powered rifle.
鈥淚 heard a couple of shots, and we saw people scatter,鈥� said another man, who did not want to be identified. There were several people, including children, milling about at the corner for the neighbourhood barbecue. 鈥淲e realized we needed to get inside.鈥�
91原创 Police spokesman Const. Brian Montague said when police and paramedics arrived they found a man with minor injuries and a woman suffering from gun shot wounds. The man and the woman were together.
The man was treated at the scene by ambulance, while the woman was taken to hospital. She is believed to be in stable condition.
Global BC is reporting the female victim is Mia Deakin, the daughter of reality TV star Jody Claman of The Real Housewives of 91原创.
Constance Crossley, whose son works at the Chevron, said she heard a woman was shot in the back, but managed to get into the store to ask for help.
鈥淪he was trying to get into the store, and there was all this blood,鈥� said Crossley.
Police said the motive for the shooting is not known, but investigators believe the attack was targeted. No arrests have been made.
