Sometimes whales can be as curious about people as people are about them.
Or at least that鈥檚 how it seemed Saturday when a Prince Rupert Adventures Tour boat was surrounded by around 30 humpback whales, according to Captain Doug Davis.
Two of the humpbacks stuck around for two hours until Davis had to start his vessel鈥檚 engine and return to port.
鈥淚t was quite the experience,鈥� said Davis of the whales breaching and floating around his ship.
鈥淭hey鈥檙e very curious,鈥� he said. 鈥淗umpbacks are amazing creatures.鈥�
Also amazing was video of the encounter, which shows the whales slowly swimming around Davis鈥檚 boat, surfacing and rolling.
Davis said he didn鈥檛 do anything to attract the whales, which feed on shrimp-sized krill and begin to show up in the Prince Rupert area in summer and stay through autumn.
There were also some orca whales in the area but they didn鈥檛 come as close as the curious humpbacks.
