ALPINE SKIING

Women’s downhill — Valerie Grenier of Mont-Tremblant, Que., finished 21st in a time of one minute, 42.13 seconds; Roni Remme, Toronto, was 23rd (1:42.80); Candace Crawford, Toronto, did not complete the course.

BOBSLEIGH

Women’s two-seater — Kaillie Humphries (pilot), Calgary, with Phylicia George (brake), Markham, Ont., with a cumulative time of 3:22.89 after four runs — Humphries has been on the podium in three-straight Winter Games (two gold, one bronze); Alysia Rissling, Edmonton, and Heather Moyse, Summerside, P.E.I., finished sixth (3:23.63); and Christine de Bruin, Stony Plain, Alta., and Melissa Lotholz, Barrhead, Alta., seventh (3:23.89).

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

Men’s Team Sprint Freestyle — Canada (Len Valjas, Toronto, and Alex Harvey, Saint-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que.) finished eighth in the final (16.31.86).

Women’s Team Sprint Freestyle — Canada (Emily Nishikawa,Whitehorse, and Dahria Beatty, Whitehorse) finished seventh in the second semifinal (17:01.54) and did not advance to the final.

CURLING

Women — Canada (Rachel Homan, Emma Miskew and Lisa Weagle, all Ottawa; Joanne Courtney, Edmonton) , eliminating them from playoff contention. The Homan rink defeated Olympic Athletes from Russia 9-8 to finish the round-robin with a 4-5 record. They finish the tournament in a four-way tie for fifth place behind China, but ahead of Switzerland and the U.S.

Men — Canada (Kevin Koe, Edmonton; Marc Kennedy, St. Albert, Alta.; Brent Laing, Meaford, Ont.; Ben Hebert, Regina) to complete the round-robin in second place (6-3). They will face the United States in Thursday’s semifinal.

FIGURE SKATING

Women — Kaetlyn Osmond of Marystown, N.L., in the short program (78.87) and trails the leader from the OAR by 4.05 points; Gabrielle Daleman, Newmarket, Ont., was seventh (68.90) — both advanced to the free skate; Larkyn Austman, Coquitlam, B.C., failed to qualify after placing 25th (51.42).

FREESTYLE SKIING

Men’s ski cross — and captured the gold medal; Kevin Drury, Toronto, did not finish in the medal race to rank fourth overall; David Duncan of London, Ont., was fourth in the Small Final (eighth overall); Chris Del Bosco, Montreal, suffered a serious crash in his 1/8 final and did not complete the course (31st overall).

HOCKEY

Men — Montreal’s Maxim Noreau scored in the opening minute of the third period to give his team a . Canada will play Germany in Friday’s semifinal.

SNOWBOARDING

Men’s Big Air — Maxence Parrot, Bromont, Que., was the top qualifier in his section with 92.50 points; Mark McMorris, Regina, placed third in his group with a best-score of 95.75; Sebastien Toutant, L’Assomption, Que., fifth (91.00) — all earned a berth in the finals; Tyler Nicholson, North Bay, Ont., was sixth in the group (89.25) — did not advance.

SPEED SKATING

Long Track

Women’s team pursuit — Canada (Ivanie Blondin and Isabelle Weidemann, both Ottawa; Josie Morrison, Kamloops, B.C.) finished fourth overall after losing the B-Final to the United States in a time of 2:59.72.

Men’s team pursuit — Canada (Ted-Jan Bloemen, Calgary; Ben Donnelly, Oshawa, Ont.; Denny Morrison, Fort St. John, B.C.) defeated the U.S. in 3:42.16 to rank seventh in the event.
