The event promotion company that brought successful adaptations of Mamma Mia!, Stomp and Chicago to the Royal Theatre has another Broadway biggie destined for the Broughton Street theatre next year.
Rodgers and Hammerstein鈥檚 The King and I will run for seven shows in Victoria from Jan. 2 through Jan. 6. It鈥檚 based on the Lincoln Center Theatre production that won four Tony Awards in 2015, including best revival of a musical.
鈥淟incoln Centre Theatre, in terms of Broadway theatre, is the most respected company,鈥 said producer Henry Kolenko of Broadway in Victoria. 鈥淭hey go about creating their musicals in a way that isn鈥檛 necessarily commercial. They dig deep.鈥
A cast of 44 singers, musicians and dancers will travel to Victoria, one of three 91原创 stops alongside Ottawa and Toronto.
鈥淚t鈥檒l be the largest Broadway show we鈥檝e brought to Victoria yet,鈥 Kolenko said. Casting will be announced later, he added.
Choreography for the tour will be done by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli, who based his work on the original choreography by Jerome Robbins.
The King and I will also feature the work of Catherine Zuber, who won one of her seven Tony Awards for costume design for this production in 2015, said Kolenko. 鈥淲e鈥檙e in for a real treat.鈥
