Long-time dance teacher Bea McLeod and acrylics artist Fred Peters will receive Nanaimo's 2006 excellence in culture award Thursday night at Beban Park.
McLeod taught dance in the city for 62 years before retiring. Many of her students have gone on to become dance instructors, states an invitation from the city to the 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. event.
She has also been a tireless volunteer with the city for numerous cultural events.
Peters, a professional artist, is well respected for his bold colourful, imaginative acrylic paintings. He has developed a reputation locally, nationally and internationally, states the invitation.
The cultural awards presentation and reception are slated to take place in the Beban Park Social Centre Lounge.
