Voyages To Windward: Sailing Adventures On 91原创 Island's West Coast by Elsie Hulsizer (ANF 910.916433 HUL) just published last year is a wonderful book about the author's summers of sailing with her husband through various inlets, sounds, bays and harbours along the west coast of 91原创 Island for the last twenty years.
Each chapter begins with a map showing the area visited, and then goes on to describe the small settlements, the people the author met there, and the couple's experiences during their voyage.
Beautiful full-colour photographs accompany the easy-flowing text.
There is enough sailing and weather to engage the interest of sailors, but not so much that us non-sailors get overwhelmed.
Sprinkled throughout are anecdotes that bring the communities to life.
My personal favourite was a conversation with a volunteer in the library deposit station at Zeballos. I learned amazing things about the library that I had never known over my 30 year career.
Curl up with this book, get energized, visit your own backyard, and then while on your trip, try some of these other titles.
